A tree and it’s fruit

A tree and it’s fruit:  Luke 6:43

My Devotion:

“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.  Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.  People do not pick figs from thorn bushes, or grapes from briers.  The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart.  For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.”

It is impossible for trees to bear fruit its seed was not intended to produce.  The same is of a man.  A person who accepts Jesus as Savior is sealed by the power of the Holy Spirit.  A person who does not choose to accept Jesus as Messiah is vulnerable to Satan’s dissimulation.  You can hear in the talk of a good man his heart reflects the unfailing love of his God and hope of salvation.  You can hear in the talk of a evil man his sin and hate, he still carries his guilt.  This is discernment.  We need to be forgiven.  It is our human nature to produce the fruit of our creator.

What is this fruit a good tree (person) bears?  It is said to be LOVE.  What is the fruit a bad tree (person) bears?  It is said to be SPITEFULNESS.  Jesus said for us to love your enemies.  Do you speak as though you love people?  Jesus forbids treating others spitefully.  No matter the cause.  No matter the reason.

I challenge you the next time you are around a crowd or a conversation to listen for the evidence of the Fruit of the Holy Spirit in the words exchanged.  Then think about what was given in the context of discussion.  By this I mean how did it make you feel good? Or bad?  I understand that privacy might reveal sensitive matters, so please don’t begin to judge the exchange.  But I think you understand the concept of what the scripture is conveying to the believer.  It says that the person speaks out of what his/her heart is filled with…the overflow.  This is the evidence of the presence of the Holy Spirit or the lack thereof.

We as believers need to welcome the good things of the Lord to fill our hearts.  To welcome the divine indwelling of the Holy Spirit to fill us with his fruit, so that we may share and give what He freely gives to those who believe in Him.  Can you feed another with thorns?  It will only hurt and bring dissatisfaction.   But if you give love; peace, long-suffering, hope, joy, self-control, patience and forgiveness you bring life that satisfies the heart.  Give your BEST and bring honor to the Father who gladly gave His Best…Jesus.

  1. Very very well said Zoey. I appreciate your emphasis of love as a major characteristic of those who have come to Christ. You are so right when you said…

“We as believers need to welcome the good things of the Lord to fill our hearts. To welcome the divine indwelling of the Holy Spirit to fill us with his fruit, so that we may share and give what He freely gives to those who believe in Him.”

I wish we all (including myself) would come to a greater understanding of the importance of the spiritual fruit given to us by God and bore among those with whom we dwell.

    Lord bless you !
