Proverbs 31 Challenge ~ Chapter 22

Proverbs 22

Amplified Bible (AMP)

22 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.

The rich and poor meet together; the Lord is the Maker of them all.

A prudent man sees the evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and are punished [with suffering].

The reward of humility and the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.

Thorns and snares are in the way of the obstinate and willful; he who guards himself will be far from them.

Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

He who sows iniquity will reap calamity and futility, and the rod of his wrath [with which he smites others] will fail.

He who has a bountiful eye shall be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor.

10 Drive out the scoffer, and contention will go out; yes, strife and abuse will cease.

11 He who loves purity and the pure in heart and who is gracious in speech—because of the grace of his lips will he have the king for his friend.

12 The eyes of the Lord keep guard over knowledge and him who has it, but He overthrows the words of the treacherous.

13 The sluggard says, There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!

14 The mouth of a loose woman is a deep pit [for ensnaring wild animals]; he with whom the Lord is indignant and who is abhorrent to Him will fall into it.

15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him.

16 He who oppresses the poor to get gain for himself and he who gives to the rich—both will surely come to want.

17 Listen (consent and submit) to the words of the wise, and apply your mind to my knowledge;

18 For it will be pleasant if you keep them in your mind [believing them]; your lips will be accustomed to [confessing] them.

19 So that your trust (belief, reliance, support, and confidence) may be in the Lord, I have made known these things to you today, even to you.

20 Have I not written to you [long ago] excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

21 To make you know the certainty of the words of truth, that you may give a true answer to those who sent you?

22 Rob not the poor [being tempted by their helplessness], neither oppress the afflicted at the gate [where the city court is held],

23 For the Lord will plead their cause and deprive of life those who deprive [the poor or afflicted].

24 Make no friendships with a man given to anger, and with a wrathful man do not associate,

25 Lest you learn his ways and get yourself into a snare.

26 Be not one of those who strike hands and pledge themselves, or of those who become security for another’s debts.

27 If you have nothing with which to pay, why should he take your bed from under you?

28 Remove not the ancient landmark which your fathers have set up.

29 Do you see a man diligent and skillful in his business? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.

  1. Chapter 22

A good name is desirable or to be chosen above wealth or accolades. Look instead for God’s approval. This is healthier than always trying to gain someone’s approval, for who knows what is truly in the heart of man but God? He knows how to support you in every endeavor. Don’t waste your time selling out to get flattery, it is like invisible ink. Instead, guard your reputation and God will lift you up in His perfect time. [Vs:1]

God is the common denominator in both wealth and lean times if you let Him, when you trust in Him you will never go hungry or lack for anything that is His will for your life. Both the wealthy and the poor belong to Him; for it is not status but the soul that is within, that marks the man for eternity. [Vs:2]

Having good judgment and applying it will bring resolve and satisfaction. Seek to be under godly authority and accountability in your walk with the Lord. He will care for you and bring an answer in due time. Don’t be foolish and do it on your own. His ways and thought are above ours. We can be lead astray or distracted by worldly thinking. For the person who’s plans are to follow Christ Jesus and to live in God’s righteousness – know that it is God alone who’s righteousness will carry you through to complete His plans. He tells us to sit at His feet and be taught of His truths. Take them to your everyday life –like you would a meal, you can be nourished and replenished with strength and wisdom. [Vs:3-11]

You can have confidence in the Lord to watch over His Word. He is not interested in someone who is unfaithful- in other words, their plans are on sinking sand and shallow ground, no foundation aside from God will stand the test of time. Nor does He listen to excuses or clever speeches made to Him. We need to follow Godly wisdom and instruction in order to please God-in order to be under His covering which is the umbrella of His protection. [Vs:12-17]

When we study and learn of the teachings of God, we have a confidence in how we think and act. It shows in our entire continence. We have an answer for our faith and are able to share that same truth in clarity when asked, “Why does it appear there is something about us, that seems to makes us different?” [Vs18-19]]

The Holy Spirit will ready our mind with an answer and will quicken our heart so that we can give an answer to God. We must speak to God with the same truth that He speaks to us. Lean into Him and just take the word of His truths – like a child does, in pureness of heart. In worship we please the Lord, focus on pleasing the Lord and let Him lift you up. [Vs:20-29]

May our Lord bless your day with the Word and Peace.~Zoey

  2. Day 22: Proverbs 22

11 He who loves purity and the pure in heart and who is gracious in speech—because of the grace of his lips will he have the king for his friend.

As I ponder this scripture another one comes to mind….Matt 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” A pure heart sees God. A pure heart is one that actively seeks the Lord and practices what it is taught. It is a heart that is not divided but totally centered on the Lord.

A pure heart has gracious speech because it is filled with the grace of God. When a pure heart speaks, it is with the wisdom of God, the love of God, the power of God. God always commands attention, even when He comes from our mouths. That is why a king is his friend. Seeing God is a rarity these days, but it is His desire for us to see Him, to know Him with all that we are.

*****Thank you, Lord for creating in me a clean heart, a pure heart as I seek you first. Also for filling me with so much of your grace that it overflows from my mouth.
