Proverbs 31 Challenge ~ Chapter 2

Proverbs_31Proverbs 2

Amplified Bible (AMP)

2 My son, if you will receive my words and treasure up my commandments within you,

Making your ear attentive to skillful and godly [a]Wisdom and inclining and directing your heart and mind to understanding [applying all your powers to the quest for it];

Yes, if you cry out for insight and raise your voice for understanding,

If you seek [Wisdom] as for silver and search for skillful and godly Wisdom as for hidden treasures,

Then you will understand the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of [our omniscient] God.

For the Lord gives skillful and godly Wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

He hides away sound and godly Wisdom and stores it for the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with Him); He is a shield to those who walk uprightly and in integrity,

That He may guard the paths of justice; yes, He preserves the way of His saints.

Then you will understand righteousness, justice, and fair dealing [in every area and relation]; yes, you will understand every good path.

10 For skillful and godly Wisdom shall enter into your heart, and knowledge shall be pleasant to you.

11 Discretion shall watch over you, understanding shall keep you,

12 To deliver you from the way of evil and the evil men, from men who speak perverse things and are liars,

13 Men who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness,

14 Who rejoice to do evil and delight in the perverseness of evil,

15 Who are crooked in their ways, wayward and devious in their paths.

16 [Discretion shall watch over you, understanding shall keep you] to deliver you from the alien woman, from the outsider with her flattering words,

17 Who forsakes the husband and guide of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God.

18 For her house sinks down to death and her paths to the spirits [of the dead].

19 None who go to her return again, neither do they attain or regain the paths of life.

20 So may you walk in the way of good men, and keep to the paths of the [consistently] righteous (the upright, in right standing with God).

21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the men of integrity, blameless and complete [in God’s sight], shall remain in it;

22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the treacherous shall be rooted out of it.

  1. Day 2: Proverbs 2

    My Recipe For Making My Ear Attentive To Wisdom

    Proverbs 2:2
    2 Making your ear attentive to skillful and godly [a]Wisdom and inclining and directing your heart and mind to understanding [applying all your powers to the quest for it];

    I wondered about making my ear attentive……how do I do that? As we are reading Proverbs, I so want to hear the voice of my Lord and learn of His wisdom. But how?

    Here is my recipe for making my ear attentive:

    1. INVITE: I invite the Lord to teach me. Before I go into my day ask the Lord to come and share Himself with me. I tell Him how much I want to know Him. I ask Him to help me see Him, hear him and feel Him. I ask Him to help me recognize Him.

    2. EXPECT: I start my day with expectation that I will see Him, hear Him and feel Him. I position my heart and mind to receive Him by focusing my attention on Him. I do this by thinking of Him, His ways, His word, His love. I open my mouth and praise Him. I think on His greatness, His goodness, His great love, His great mercy. I look for Him. I listen for Him. My heart attitude is this moment is my moment to learn of my Lord, no matter where I am. I cultivate a teachable heart.

    3. RENEW: I renew my mind to His word. I go to His word with the expectation that He will reveal Himself. He wants me know Him. He always meets me. He wants to be with me just as much as I want to be with Him, even more so. I discipline my thoughts, by judging them according to what the Lord is teaching me. Plus, renewing my mind helps my heart and mind grow so He may expand in me.

    4. INCREASE: I increase my knowledge of Him. I do this by going to worship, by worshiping the Lord, by listening to His word preached, by reading, by speaking with my friends about Him. So much of my day is spent in thinking of my Lord and speaking of my Lord. I meditate His word. I ponder it throughout my day. I keep what He is teaching me in constant shuffle in my brain. I do work in a public place that requires that I keep God politically correct yet, even in that arena I serve my Lord by doing my job unto Him because He is there with me. He teaches me everywhere, there is no place that I could go that He could not teach me in. I am always learning of Him, seeing Him, and hearing Him because He is with me at all times.

    5.PRACTICE: I practice what I learn. I listen to do. I implement what He is teaching me, by asking Him to help me do it. I imagine Him helping me to hear, to learn and to practice.

    I so want my ear to be attentive, to have all my focus, all my attention on Him. He helps me to dial my heart to Him and then I receive. He wants me to receive, to know and understand Him and His wisdom.

    ***Thank you, Lord for sharing yourself with me. For opening my eyes and helping me to hear.

    1. Well, for me…this recipe gets the Champion Blue Ribbon of Best Life Recipe! We can see five ingredients to make a Christlike transformation in a believers walk ! So often we think its on outward appearance that we have to put on, so that people will tell us apart from the “crowd”, so to speak. We dress, think, talk how people think we should so we are accepted into the right circles. But actually, it is an inward transformation that God blesses. You need the right combination; wisdom, understanding, knowledge and the fear of the Lord which helps us change from our “old” self into the new creation He desires for us. To hear Him…we need to listen in the Spirit [inward] because He is Spirit. The transformation begins with our soul upon salvation and continues forward- built upon His purpose for our life. Bless you my dear friend~Zoey

  2. The Lord gives wisdom.[v:6] He intends for us to be mighty in spirit so that we can use our words to edify and encourage each other. The Lord speaks to us of knowledge and understanding not so much to have a check list of do’s and don’ts. (No, that is the law of Moses which is not the same as the Proverbs, these saying were in part written by King Solomon.) What happens when we are equipped with the truth? We can clearly see how to conquer wrong thinking. We have the map to the righteous paths of living and we are skillful at making wise choices along the way.

    There are so many benefits to glean when we search it out in the scriptures.[v:4] Look for the counsel of good men and keep to the paths of the righteous [v:20]. I know that I personally prefer Christian music, books, TV and movies over secular, worldly and humanistic entertainment for a source of occupying my leisure time. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you [v:11], so, in other words, what would have been something you’d have stood all night in line to watch at the movies has changed as a priority to you.

    Slowly, you find yourself integrating more of what edifies your spirit, mind, soul and body. Yes, we might have a cookie or bowl of ice cream every now and then but you’ve learned moderation and self-control! More importantly, God is protecting the way of his faithful ones. He looks out to you and say’s my child…You’ve Got This!

    My prayer:
    Father God, you watch over those who trust in your word. You delight in seeing the faithful living in your will for their life. Your word tells us that wisdom will teach us how to understand what is right and just and fair – every good path. Thank you that I can call out for insight and you will answer me. For you guard the course of the just and you are a shield to those whose walk is blameless. Amen.

    God Bless ~Zoey

    1. Isn’t it amazing what His wisdom does for us? Thank you for helping set my heart on the right path, by focusing it on the benefits of His wisdom. These are the things I need to be thinking on. How great is the wisdom of our God and even more amazing is how He helps us to receive it.
