Who can we count on for the truth… America?

Who can we count on for the truth?  As we are facing a presidential campaign year, the truth seems to be an “elusive trout.”   For me, I have gone to the only source of TRUTH that has stood through it all; time and civilization as we know it.  The Word of God is our foundation and is the Wisdom our Founding Fathers of America used to set our doctrines of Liberty and Freedom as a Union back in early 1772-87.  Such truth has brought us through 240 years as a Nation under God, because although people have tried in reconstruct the truth to humanistic reasoning, as long as God is in the Heavens… we as people on Earth will remain “under” God.  You think about that.  As I read my devotions over the past week, my stand for this election became clear.  With the passing of Nancy Reagan today, I reflected on the past presidents over my lifetime, which have been since Dwight Eisenhower (1953-1961) to present, a total of 17 presidents.   My conclusion is that history does teach us and when it lines up with the Truth of God’s word… it is unchangeable.  I came across some political cartoons in my studies; my question to all of us in America is “Who can we count on for the truth?”  Line it up with God’s word and prayerfully follow the wisdom found within His teaching, as we go forward selecting our next President of the United States.

I have watched the Clintons, I have watched Trump, over too many years.  We need a Sheppard’s heart in the White House now, as was Ronald Reagan’s and to go back even further – Abraham Lincoln’s.  This election year is pivotal – like during the Civil War of 1864.  Let us be reminded of the atrocities suffered by those who have gone before us in laying down the foundation of our great country.  We must entrust the leadership to those who understand what protecting it’s people and the freedom on which it stands… One Nation under God and Liberty and Justice for all. Over these past 8 years and more, we as citizens have been unnerved and America as a whole has been made to suffer too long.   I say: No more tainted truth.  No more slanted truth. No more twisted truth.  No more spun truth.  No more half truth.  I say no thank you.  You choose this day who you will believe, but as for me and my house… we are not casting our vote for either of the two above mentioned candidates.

Let Freedom Reign.  Let God be True.

May I share my devotion:   Proverbs 8: 12-36

12 I, Wisdom [from God], make prudence my dwelling, and I find out knowledge and discretion.

13 The reverent fear and worshipful awe of the Lord [includes] the hatred of evil; pride, arrogance, the evil way, and perverted and twisted speech I hate.

The Copperhead Party – In favor of a vigorous persecution of peace! Romanticizing the Villains of the Civil War

14 I have counsel and sound knowledge, I have understanding, I have might and power.

15 By me kings reign and rulers decree justice.

16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges and governors of the earth.

17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me early and diligently shall find me.

18 Riches and honor are with me, enduring wealth and righteousness (uprightness in every area and relation, and right standing with God).

19 My fruit is better than gold, yes, than refined gold, and my increase than choice silver.

20 I [Wisdom] walk in the way of righteousness (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation), in the midst of the paths of justice,

21 That I may cause those who love me to inherit [true] riches and that I may fill their treasuries.

22 The Lord formed and brought me [Wisdom] forth at the beginning of His way, before His acts of old.

23 I [Wisdom] was inaugurated and ordained from everlasting, from the beginning, before ever the earth existed.

24 When there were no deeps, I was brought forth, when there were no fountains laden with water.

25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth,

26 While as yet He had not made the land or the fields or the first of the dust of the earth.

27 When He prepared the heavens, I [Wisdom] was there; when He drew a circle upon the face of the deep and stretched out the firmament over it,

28 When He made firm the skies above, when He established the fountains of the deep,

29 When He gave to the sea its limit and His decree that the waters should not transgress [across the boundaries set by] His command, when He appointed the foundations of the earth—

30 Then I [Wisdom] was [a]beside Him as a master and director of the work; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing before Him always,

31 Rejoicing in His inhabited earth and delighting in the sons of men.

32 Now therefore listen to me, O you sons; for blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are those who keep my ways.

33 Hear instruction and be wise, and do not refuse or neglect it.

34 Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoever finds me [Wisdom] finds life and draws forth and obtains favor from the Lord.

36 But he who misses me or sins against me wrongs and injures himself; all who hate me love and court death.

My prayer:

Father God,

I will keep it short today, you know the hearts that come before you in prayer for direction on our upcoming presidential election.  More so, you already know who will win and become our President.  Help us to make the right decisions.  Help us to reflect back over the past 10, 20 years as we put our ballots in the boxes this November.  You are a fair and just God.  The nations of the world watch as America fights it out – like a civil war.  Let us not forget your Wisdom.  Let us be reminded each day to be thoughtful and kind to our neighbor, which is every person we come in contact with on a daily basis, not just in passing along our way to the grocery store or home.  We are taught in Galatians 5:14: “For the whole Law [concerning human relationships] is fulfilled in one precept, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself [that is, you shall have an unselfish concern for others and do things for their benefits]”  Thank you, Lord, for reminding us that we can always make room for our bothers and sisters in God’s House. amen

God Gives the TRUTH by Zoey

God Gives_2014 Truth
Eternal Truth: Redemption and Salvation of the Soul Eternal -Dictionary meaning: (Based on the Random House Dictionary, © Random House, Inc) 1. ETERNAL:enduring; immutable: denoting or relating to that which is without beginning and end, regarded as an attribute of God unchanged by time, esp being true or valid for all time; immutable: eternal truths seemingly unceasing; occurring again and again.

God gives His ETERNAL TRUTH.  One of the oldest and diabolical lies from Satan is that he is a keeper of souls. This lying spirit causes havoc in our life. What happens to you when Satan gets you to think wrong thoughts?  He will get you to act on it, too. The saying is very true: “How you think today is how you live tomorrow.” This demonic spirit is not alone.  When the lie is planted in your heart – Shame, Guilt and Hopelessness usually will show up along side the lie. Remember that through the finished works of Christ (dying on the Cross) – we now have redemption and the knowledge of the Gospels.

Another truth: Satan did not leave on his own volition to set up a evil kingdom to rein. The scriptures tell us that  Satan was sent out of the holy mountain of God due to sinful pride and rebellion against the Lord.  We read also, Satan was judged by God and the angels that followed Satan were cast out of Heaven with him. In conclusion, there is only one Creator of souls and one Judge that sits on the Great White Throne. This is God alone, for he is the only keeper of our souls. On His right hand is Jesus holding the keys to death and Hell.

As the scriptures in prophecy state, Jesus is coming again to defeat Satan and cast him into the Lake of Fire for all eternity. Those during the last days (mankind) who choose to follow Satan (obtain the universal mark of the beast) will find the same judgment as did Lucifer’s’ fallen angels.

Satan is powerless to retain any soul (past, present or future) for he was first judged and secondly condemned by God to eternal destruction. The good news for us (mankind) is we are given the wonderful Hope of salvation in Christ Jesus and the promise of eternal life! So, I urge you don’t miss out by believing a lie from Satan. God is not the author of lies but of Truth.

Believe in His Son. “Ask and it shall be given, Seek and you will find, Knock and the door will be open.” Repent of your sin and believe in your heart and you will be saved. You are a new creation in Christ. Hallelujah!

Ezekiel 28:11-19, Luke 10:10, 2 Peter 2:4. Mat. 7:7,

Duet. 18:9-13 Rev. 20:11, Hebrews 2:10-18

AFTER NOTES by Zoey:  My heart reaches out especially to the non-believers and those who may be at a crossroad in their personal life regarding eternity.  I pray that the knowledge shared in this post will bring the clarification about your God given soul and the salvation given when Christ died on the cross for mankind.   May it (Grace)  be found today as you read about the truth of God in the bible verses.  ~Peace

I (as a servant of the Lord) humbly pick up my pen and paper in obedience to what the Holy Spirit leads to share with you.  My love and hope remains…

Proverbs 31 Challenge ~ Chapter 20

Proverbs 20

Amplified Bible (AMP)

20 Wine is a mocker, strong drink a riotous brawler; and whoever errs or reels because of it is not wise.

The terror of a king is as the roaring of a lion; whoever provokes him to anger or angers himself against him sins against his own life.

It is an honor for a man to cease from strife and keep aloof from it, but every fool will quarrel.

The sluggard does not plow when winter sets in; therefore he begs in harvest and has nothing.

Counsel in the heart of man is like water in a deep well, but a man of understanding draws it out.

Many a man proclaims his own loving-kindness and goodness, but a faithful man who can find?

The righteous man walks in his integrity; blessed (happy, fortunate, enviable) are his children after him.

A king who sits on the throne of judgment winnows out all evil [like chaff] with his eyes.

Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

10 Diverse weights [one for buying and another for selling] and diverse measures—both of them are exceedingly offensive and abhorrent to the Lord.

11 Even a child is known by his acts, whether [or not] what he does is pure and right.

12 The hearing ear and the seeing eye—the Lord has made both of them.

13 Love not sleep, lest you come to poverty; open your eyes and you will be satisfied with bread.

14 It is worthless, it is worthless! says the buyer; but when he goes his way, then he boasts [about his bargain].

15 There is gold, and a multitude of pearls, but the lips of knowledge are a vase of preciousness [the most precious of all].

16 [The judge tells the creditor] Take the garment of one who is security for a stranger; and hold him in pledge when he is security for foreigners.

17 Food gained by deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.

18 Purposes and plans are established by counsel; and [only] with good advice make or carry on war.

19 He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; therefore associate not with him who talks too freely.

20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in complete darkness.

21 An inheritance hastily gotten [by greedy, unjust means] at the beginning, in the end it will not be blessed.

22 Do not say, I will repay evil; wait [expectantly] for the Lord, and He will rescue you.

23 Diverse and deceitful weights are shamefully vile and abhorrent to the Lord, and false scales are not good.

24 Man’s steps are ordered by the Lord. How then can a man understand his way?

25 It is a snare to a man to utter a vow [of consecration] rashly and [not until] afterward inquire [whether he can fulfill it].

26 A wise king winnows out the wicked [from among the good] and brings the threshing wheel over them [to separate the chaff from the grain].

27 The spirit of man [that factor in human personality which proceeds immediately from God] is the lamp of the Lord, searching all his innermost parts.

28 Loving-kindness and mercy, truth and faithfulness, preserve the king, and his throne is upheld by [the people’s] loyalty.

29 The glory of young men is their strength, and the beauty of old men is their gray head [suggesting wisdom and experience].

30 Blows that wound cleanse away evil, and strokes [for correction] reach to the innermost parts.

A Sinner’s Confession

social_media_truth“I am a sinner, and I have cheated in (almost) every relationship I have been in.”

“Can one go upon hot coals and his/her feet not be burned? (29) So he/she who cohabits with his/her neighbor’s wife/husband [will be tortured with evil consequences and just retribution]; he/she who touches her/him shall not be innocent or go unpunished.”

~Proverbs 6:28-29 *author added emphasis on gender

So..why am I confessing this? Well, I woke up at 0400, and for the last 2 hours and 36 minutes have fought to go back to sleep. But, the Holy Spirit was nudging me, and I finally gave in. I know this confession will likely lead to a flood of comments, but I have faith that God will use this post for good.

Cheating, IMO, is a symptom of a much larger problem. My inability to stay faithful to the commitment of the relationship(s) I was in was NOT about them-it was about me. The TRUTH of the matter is that before I became a Christian, ( I mean a “Walk the Walk” not just a “Talk the Talk” kind), I had little to no self respect or self love. If I could not respect/love myself, how could I respect/love someone else? How could I show someone I cared about something I did not feel for myself?

Like many people who cheat, I tried to convince myself what I was doing was okay. I used the “He doesn’t respect/love/cherish/etc”..excuse. I would start an argument to justify my position. I would find any fault, no matter how small, and blow it way out of proportion, to justify my wanderings. It made looking in the mirror each morning something I dreaded. I couldn’t look myself in the eyes. I felt shame, because deep down, I knew I was a really bad/terrible/unsavory/despicable/person.

Then I received Christ, and He loved me. ME!! He accepted me as I was and loved me.

That changed my heart.

Some people say “Once a cheater, always a cheater.” or “A leopard can’t change it’s spots.”

Try telling GOD that!

In 1 Samuel, chapter 10, God gave Saul a new heart. Yep! If He can do it for Saul, who is to say He didn’t do it for me?

In the 2 relationships since I have been a believer/follower/servant, I did not cheat. Why? Because I am a new person in Christ. He loves me, I love me. Yes, I am still a sinner, but THAT sin..THAT more.  First, I have too much respect for myself to cheat. Second, I have to much respect for the man I was with to cheat. Why? I respect the commitment I had made to him. (Yes, same man, 2 different times!!) I loved him, and in many ways, still do.

The LORD helped me love myself, and forgive myself too.

Wow. It was like a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders. Carrying around “shame” is exhausting.

I am rid of it. I can look myself in the mirror now without the fear of shame.

If I am asked in a (hopeful) future relationship, if I have ever cheated, I will be honest and say “Yes.” I am hoping the man the Lord brings me will understand that I have faced my fears, faced my faults, taken responsibility and changed.

The Lord changed my heart.

I am Blessed!

For His Glory,

Be Careful

Attitude of the heart is everything…

Things you regularly say are clear indicators of the attitude of your heart.

Pointing out the faults of everyone else won’t erase your own.

We all are guilty of it sometimes, but if we aren’t careful, it will take over our heart. We are at war with the spirit of this world…gotta stay alert and keep each other encouraged.

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” Luke 6:45

“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking,be put away from you, with all malice” Ephesians 4:31″Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:2

“Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:8

Lord, today I ask that you give me grace to allow your Word to penetrate my heart…and cut away the uncleanness that’s in it. Help me to speak only words of encouragement. Help me to live by example in Jesus name.

Grace (study) pt 5

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. (Philippians 4:11)

Want here indicates need. Learning is a process that takes time.

I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. (Philippians 4:12)

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Philippians 4:13)

When read in context, this scripture isn’t talking about signs and wonders…it’s talking about being content in all situations…and being at peace with God.

TV preachers promise return on blessing which usually somehow winds up equal to materialistic gain.

The greatest blessing we can hope for is absolutely possible to receive while we are hungry and broke!

Paul said that he was fasting & hungry often…..

So what’s the benefit of living for God if He isn’t going to fix all the problems? The benefit is learning that happiness, peace and joy are completely independent from this world.

How else does the world know who the real people of God are?

Two houses…one on a rock and one on the sand. The difference was what happened when the rain came.

Few Christians get to the point that they can be trusted with great trials. We must determine in our hearts that we will learn to trust Him….and refuse to allow fear cause us to just be spectators.

Many days that I have the most pressure…the most strife…the least amount of patience are the days when I didn’t start out by going boldly to the throne of grace.

Grace gives us the strength to SHOUT over the testimony without yet seeing the completed work!

The Truth Quest

I have been Truth questing. Here is what I have learned about this word.

1. Jesus is the Truth

John 14:6       Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.

2. The Word of God is Truth

Psalm 119:160      The sum of Your word is truth [the total of the full meaning of all Your individual precepts]; and every one of Your righteous decrees endures forever.

3. The more I know Jesus, the Truth, and His Word, the more freedom I have.

John 8:32      And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.

4. God desires us to know and understand Him in our inner selves.

Psalm 51:6      Behold, You desire truth in the inner being; make me therefore to know wisdom in my inmost heart.

5. Our lives are meant to be showcases for His loving Truth, Jesus.

Ephesians 4:15       Rather, let our lives lovingly [a]express truth [in all things, speaking truly, dealing truly, living truly]. Enfolded in love, let us grow up in every way and in all things into Him Who is the Head, [even] Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

1 John 3:18      Little children, let us not love [merely] in theory or in speech but in deed and in truth (in practice and in sincerity).

Ephesians 4:25      Therefore, rejecting all falsity and being done now with it, let everyone express the truth with his neighbor, for we are all parts of one body and members one of another.

6. Those who have intimate relationship with Jesus, the Truth, are His friends and hear and obey His voice.

John 18:37      Pilate said to Him, Then You are a King? Jesus answered, You say it! [You speak correctly!] For I am a King. [Certainly I am a King!] This is why I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the Truth. Everyone who is of the Truth [who is a friend of the Truth, who belongs to the Truth] hears and listens to My voice.

7. We must know Jesus, the Truth in order to worship God.

John 4:24       God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality).

8. God wants us to reproduce Jesus, the Truth, in our lives.

Ephesians 6:14      Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,

9. God wants us to accurately know and practice His Truth.

1 Timothy 2:4     Who wishes all men to be saved and [increasingly] to perceive and recognize and discern and know precisely and correctly the [divine] Truth.

The Lord is teaching me to know Him as the absolute Truth. As I am learning to walk that out in my life, I am beginning to understand that speaking one’s opinion is not the same as speaking the truth. Just because my senses, all five tell me what I am feeling, and thinking is true, it is often not His truth. Often it seems to me, that nature, circumstances and all my senses are in cahoots to distract me from His Truth.

What is becoming my absolute Truth is what Jesus would think, do, or say, in my situation. This requires me to know Him and His word. It is more than just memorizing scripture; it is knowing the One who gives the scripture. This is not a duty or a chore, but a joy to my heart.

1 John 5:3      For the [true] love of God is this: that we do His commands [keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and teaching]. And these orders of His are not irksome (burdensome, oppressive, or grievous).

Being mindful of His precepts? That is the least of my thoughts when my emotions are high and loud. What Jesus would do, often is not what I would do in any shape or form. If I can just get past my own opinion, which often feels like the absolute truth, to obeying the Lord, there is so much reward. But how? That is the question that I have been seeking the Lord for.

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12

9 The coming [of the lawless one, the antichrist] is through the activity and working of Satan and will be attended by great power and with all sorts of [pretended] miracles and signs and delusive marvels—[all of them] lying wonders—

10 And by unlimited seduction to evil and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing (going to perdition) because they did not welcome the Truth but refused to love it that they might be saved.

11 Therefore God sends upon them a misleading influence, a working of error and a strong delusion to make them believe what is false,

12 In order that all may be judged and condemned who did not believe in [who refused to adhere to, trust in, and rely on] the Truth, but [instead] took pleasure in unrighteousness.

WOW! One of the signs of the Antichrist is lack of love for the truth. As I was pondering this, I began to think about how our society as a whole values knowledge. We are encouraged to learn, learn, learn, yet little is said about doing.

I personally, love learning. At one time, I truly desired to be a midwife, so consequently I love anything that has to do with birthing. So, I often watch shows about birthing and I will read articles and such. Since I have had four children of my own and been at several deliveries of friends and family, I feel like a little bit of an expert. However, knowing something and being able to practice it are two very different things. To date, I have never delivered a baby. I am not a midwife or a doctor. My expertise is false. Who would want a “couch” midwife to deliver their baby? Not me, I want the midwife that has the education and the experience to back it up.

A midwife or doctor is one who daily practices what they know. This is what a Truth lover should look like. It is taking Jesus, all that He is and practicing Him every day. In order to do this, I must have a passion for Him. A passion to know Him and understand Him. This is something I have been asking the Lord for.

What I am seeing is that the places I know the truth about God and His ways, but I don’t put it into practice, are the very places I stumble. The one Truth I keep hearing as I study this is the importance of obeying what I know God says. Obeying has never been my strong suit. Then the Lord began to show me something that changed my heart. Demons know Him and His Word, they are lawless because they don’t practice what they know. In fact, Satan was in heaven when he disobeyed. Ouch! It is not enough to know Jesus I must have actions that show it.

John 14:15    If you [really] love Me, you will keep (obey) My commands.

Jesus is my living Truth. He is alive in me and to me. He is not off somewhere but living in me every moment. Yes, I love the Lord, and yes, I often disobey. That is the truth, He knew I would. That is why He has provided me help. Our relationship is always evolving and growing.

John 16:7

7 However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].

13 But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].

14 He will honor and glorify Me, because He will take of (receive, draw upon) what is Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.

Living out Truth requires I depend on His Holy Spirit. There is no truth in me apart from Him. God so desires me to know the Truth that He gave it to me in the form of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Through Jesus I receive all the ability I need to recognize the Truth, to apply it and live it out. Daily, He is helping me grow. As I gird my soul, my thoughts, emotions and words with His Truth, I see His Truth reproduced in my life.

My heart desire is to let my life, lovingly express Him in all ways, in all spheres. This goal is totally outside of my ability and skill. This requires me to depend on Him for all that I am. So, my Truth quest continues on, because the more Truth I know and practice, the more Jesus expands in me. I can never fit Jesus, but He always fits me. He is becoming MY WAY, MY TRUTH, and MY LIFE.

Grace (study) pt 4

Grace_wordleI am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
John 15:5

God intends for his grace to be the only source of my ability to do anything.

The greatest blessing you can pray for someone is to pray for grace & peace from the Father be upon them.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:   John 1:12

The power is God’s GRACE to live!
We notice that there’s a colon at the end of that verse, so we must continue on….

Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:14

If Jesus is full of grace and truth, what should we also be full of?

And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. John 1:16

The more we yield to the will of God, the more grace He provides. He only uses what we yield to Him. It isn’t God’s will to wrestle with us until we give in to His will. He is seeking those that will just let go.

What have we to fear in letting go? The devil?

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19

The devil can’t do anything to me that the Father doesn’t allow (remember Job?). We aren’t vulnerable to the devil. Our God is not frail and weak. He causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Rom 8:28). So anything that the devil throws at you is intended to grow you toward God.

God loves us so much that He will allow things to happen just to get rid of the parts of our nature that separate us from Him. Those attacks should be reminding us to humble ourselves, to seek God and to live a repentant lifestyle.

You can’t fear God & the devil at the same time.

Job was doing fine as long as he continued to worship God, but then he began to claim he didn’t deserve what he was going through.  Saying, “why me, I don’t deserve this trouble” is a way of blaming God for it.

We blame God when we can’t see past what’s happening to see what God really is doing.

How do I love God during trouble? Grace through faith.
Grace helps us to have the right attitude during the worst storms.

Grace (study) pt 3

 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Want to know if you are spiritual? What percentage of your prayer is about eternal things?

The average Christian prays – IF they pray – for God to alter the temporary pain, problems and pressure of their life. Many Christians live in the natural with spiritual things sprinkled in for flavor when God wants us to live in the spiritual with the natural sprinkled in.

Is prayer intended to change things we don’t like or is it intended to get us to the place where we can be at peace with what’s going on in our life?

The reason Jacob wrestled with God was because he didn’t like what was going on in his life. He wrestled until God took his ability to fight away (touched the hip). Jacob didn’t win that match. You can’t out will God!

Now, let us look back at Hebrews 4: 15-16:

“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

The words “let us” implies that is it a CHOICE and “boldly” means with confidence.

Crying in brokenness in prayer is fine, but begging God….as in “poor me, God why don’t you feel sorry for me” just isn’t necessary.

In the OT was mercy, but in the New Testament Jesus Christ brought grace. (John 1)

Mercy = God doesn’t give me what I deserve.
Grace = God gives me what I don’t deserve.
Mercy = Deals with my past
Grace = Never considers my past

Mercy does NOT deal with the future or present tense, it is the removal of past transgressions.

You can’t hold on to your past and expect to have a future at the same time. We must first accept God’s mercy and then receive grace (Hebrews 4:16).

To “find grace” means to pursue it until it has been found.

Anyone that claims to have the grace of God at work in their life but has not repented of sin is not walking in biblical grace.

The clearest definition of grace can be found in Philippians 2: 12-13

“Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”

So, what phrase is most misused in Christianity? “saved by grace”
It has become the anthem of unrepentant hearts. “God understands my hang ups. I’m saved by grace anyway.” Or “I don’t have to do all those good deeds. I’m saved by grace.” What about, “Boy, I messed up big time. Oh well, I’m under grace. I’m forgiven.” But not sorry and never repented……Or even someone saying they are so thankful for grace in their life, yet living with a shopping addiction.

Grace does NOT excuse us from obeying God. It is not a salve for our conscience. Grace is actually the means by which we are able to obey and do the works that we previously weren’t able to do.
Lord, I’m thankful for your mercy. It is Your mercy that heals the past so my scars no longer have to be wounds. Today I am casting all the unhealed wounds on You, Jesus…because you promised to comfort all who mourn. Today I accept the unconditional love of God into my life so that I can begin/continue to be made whole. I understand that upon repentance, I find mercy and I then can obtain grace. I know that when I come to the end of my own strength & ability that I can go to the throne of Grace w/ confidence….and repent for trying to do it on my own in the first place…..then Jesus will give me grace to do what needs to be done.

I will seek God FIRST so that I will already have empowerment from God to do what I cannot do myself. By grace I can choose healthy foods, by grace, I can exercise, by grace I can apologize, by grace I can forgive, by grace I can get the job done, by grace I can seek a holy lifestyle-separated form the things of the world, by grace I can succeed!!! Today I receive God’s grace by faith and today is a GOOD day in Jesus name!

Grace (study) pt 2

When the Word of God is revealing to me that my heart isn’t what it ought to be, rather than despair, I can rest assured that God understands.

Hebrews 4: 14-16 “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

How presumptuous of us to believe that we wake up, breathe, get dressed, move and work all by ourselves. Do we think that we do this all on our own because we don’t take time to pray about every little thing?

There is NOTHING I can do by myself. I am stealing glory from God if I don’t acknowledge the fact that it is in Him that I have my being.

God is limitless in what He will do through someone He can trust to give Him the glory.

So, how do I know if I am taking God’s glory?
When I wonder what people think about me after I sing, helped in outreach, witnessed, gave testimony, taught a lesson, and preached a sermon…..

How do I know if I am giving God the glory?
When what I do changes people’s opinion of God and causes them to want to get to know Him better.

So…that having been established….

This ain’t heaven.

God never promised to make our life pain free or pressure free.

In fact, it seems as if He always leaves an amount of trouble in our life so we will always remember that we need Him.

It doesn’t matter how long we’re here on earth. What matters is whether or not we allow God to complete the work He started [that is intended] to equip us for eternity.

What’s more important…what you can see, or what you can’t see?

2 Corinthians 4:5-7 “For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”

Notice….”we preach not ourselves.” The reason is, because whoever is supplying the power is getting the glory.

If I’m living my life myself, then I’m not out of the way  for Him to manifest His life in me.

I can’t save anybody. I can never come up with a good enough method or program or outreach strategy to do anything.

Acts 9:5 “And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.”

An ox goad was a stick with a pointed piece of iron on its tip used to prod the oxen when plowing. The farmer would prick the ox with it to steer it in the right direction. Sometimes the animal would rebel by kicking out at the prick, and this would result in the prick being driven even further into its flesh. In essence, the more an ox rebelled, the more it suffered.

What I have to do is put myself out of the way and depend on Jesus to order my steps through the empowerment of His grace….it takes FAITH to walk that way!
